Parkland Library Author’s Showcase

If you have published a book in the past three years, the Parkland Library invites you to participate in an Authors Showcase in conjunction with the Parkland Days event. There will be an opportunity to sell and sign your books, and to discuss the process of writing them. Safari Sue

Safari Sue brings action, adventure and education to children by telling interactive stories of Explorers and Native Americans. For children ages 8 and up. Registration, for Parkland cardholders only, begins October 23rd. (954) 757-4200.

Community Wildlife Habitat Program and Tree Giveaway

Gil McAdam will give a presentation on how to create a wildlife habitat and why it is so important. Learn the simple steps to turn your yard into a beautiful haven for wildlife. Help make Parkland a community wildlife habitat. Registration required; Parkland residents only. (954) 757-4200.

Orchid Mania for Seniors

Orchid experts, Gil MacAdam and Christine Winter Juneau form the Parkland Garden Club will discuss tips about growing and caring for Orchids. All participants will receive an orchid for their home. Limited to Parkland residents, ages 55 and up. Registration in person required by November 7th.

This program is being run in conjunction with Miami Duck Tours & Parrot Jungle Island trip by the Leisure Services Department. More info...

MHOC 2006 Fall Harvest Festival

Mary Help of Christians | Family Event
Mary Help of Christians is holding its Fall Harvest Festival which has been expanded to two days. The event will include activities such as a hay ride, rock wall climbing, bounce house, track train, berry go-round, fun super slide, Ferris wheel, kiddy roller coaster, pony rides as well as other rides. In addition to the rides, there will be music, arts and crafts and food! There is no cost for admission but rides will require tickets.

Miami Duck Tours and Parrot Jungle Island

Trip is free of charge for Parkland residents only. Includes snacks and transportation in an air-conditioned motor-coach bus. Lunch is on your own in a reserved indoor cafeteria. Registration closed.

Parkland Library | Film Viewing & Discussion
Synopsis: Set in the 1930s during the rise of the independence struggles against British colonial rule, the film examines the plight of a group of widows forced into poverty at a temple in the holy city of Varanasi. It focuses on a relationship between one of the widows, who wants to escape the social restrictions imposed on widows, and a man who is from a lower caste and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Miami International Book Fair Trip

Parkland library field trip includes admission and transportation aboard an air-conditioned motor coach bus. This yearly event includes a “Congress of Authors” and a Children’s Alley. Save the Date! Internet Safety Workshop

BSO Officer, Nicole Rosini, will teach parents how to keep children safe in online chat rooms and other internet activities. What you don’t know can hurt your kids.
